Hospital Pillbox Kazerne Graf Haeseler 3

At the right hand side of the drive of our farm, Pondfarm, once a World War 1 hospital bunker stood. This bunker was located close to the well on the south side. That bunker was built aboveground. It's walls all were over 1m. of thickness (3.2 ft.).

Opposite to many other bunkers, no (sheets of) corrugated iron were used in here, instead of that heave iron beams were used to support the roof. On top of the bunker about 1m.(3.2 ft.) of earth was deposed as camouflage and to buffer shelling attacks. The construction of the bunker was done at night so it would not attract any attention. This hospital bunker was removed during the summer of 1961. The human remains that still were in the bunker previously were removed by the town service. The actual farm house is located about 60 m. (65 yards)from the original farm
